Home to over 250 bird species and some antelope, zebra, foxes and even dolphins and whales, it’s a haven for nature lovers. Saddle up and explore the stunning Cape West Coast on horseback, starting just outside Paternoster between Stompneusbaai and the farmlands. The trail begins on a working farm, giving you a taste of the rural landscape before reaching the pristine shores of Paternoster Beach. Rides run daily at 9 AM and 3 PM and are suitable for both beginners and experienced riders - booking is recommended. Each guided ride lasts around 1 hour and 15 minutes, with a maximum of 6 riders per group, and you’ll need to arrive 30 minutes early. Riders must weigh under 100 kilograms and children under 8 are unfortunately not permitted. For your comfort, long pants and closed shoes or hiking boots are recommended. After a final breakfast in the majestic Cederberg Mountains, it’s time to pack up and head for new heights—this time, the picturesque peaks of the Witzenberg Mountain Valley, where the charming Cape Dutch town of Tulbagh is waiting to be explored. To get there, you’ll travel south via a scenic mix of gravel and tar roads. The most straightforward route leads along the R303 towards Ceres, before continuing on the R46 through the fruit-growing heartland of Ceres and the quaint town of Wolseley. The total distance is about 125 kilometres and the drive should take around two hours.

Welcome to Tulbagh, the enchanting Valley of Abundance where history and wine go hand in hand. Tucked into a dramatic basin of majestic mountains, the Tulbagh valley is a standout wine region with a unique terroir: cool nights, moisture-rich soils, and a climate perfect for cultivating top-quality grapes. First explored by European settlers in 1658, Tulbagh saw its first farms established in 1700. After the 1969 earthquake, every historic building on Church Street was lovingly restored – creating the largest collection of National Monuments in one single street in South Africa.
